Nitiwach Sukhanite Holme came to King City High from Phitsanolok Pittayakom High School in Thailand. He is sixteen years old and is a senior here. He has one older sister and a younger brother. Holme really likes King City and says he had no idea he would end up here, but he knew he was coming to California. Holme is currently staying with the Casey family and has visited places like Salinas, Los Angeles, and Lake Tahoe and thinks California is a very "neat place". At first, it was hard for him to adjust to living here. "It was really hard with friends. I like American food. It's colder here." Holme learned how to speak English little by little ever since he was in the first grade. He says he still has trouble understanding what other people say because we use so much slang here and he learned English the textbook way. Holme likes King City High School because he says it's better. Life here is easier because students have to study all the time in Thailand. His school in Thailand starts at eight in the morning and doesn't end until five thirty in the evening. In Thailand, students wear uniforms, boys must have their hair cut very short, and they don't have as many vacations as we do. There is no detention there, but if you get into serious trouble, they hit you with a cane. Back home, Holme goes out more than he does here. He likes to drive around in Thailand, but he is not allowed to drive here, even though he has his license from Thailand and he's sixteen. Holme is on the baseball team and says it is his first time ever playing because people don't play baseball at his school in Thailand. He likes to play video games, play basketball, skateboard, snowboard, and anything else with a board. He especially likes to sleep. At the end
of July, Holme has to go back to Thailand. He says he doesn't miss it
there and that he would live here in America if he could. |
