Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services
When schools do not meet State targets for improving the achievement of all students, parents may have the option to have their child participate in supplemental educational services (SES) as stated within Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Parents of students from low-income families enrolled in Title I schools in the second year of school improvement, in corrective action, or in restructuring have the opportunity to obtain supplemental educational services (SES) for their children. SES are free tutoring and other academic enrichment services that are in addition to instruction provided during the school day and are of high quality, research-based, and specifically designed to increase the academic achievement of eligible students. Unfortunately, the demand for SES greatly exceeds the funding that is available for this program. For that reason, federal law requires that priority for Supplemental Educational Services be given to the lowest performing students, based on performance on statewide assessments.

A school is identified for school improvement when it fails to make AYP for two consecutive years. A school remains in improvement, and continues into corrective action and then restructuring, until it makes AYP for two consecutive years. Chalone Peaks Middle School and Del Rey School are identified for improvement and offer SES to students. Parents wishing to enroll their child in SES are encouraged contact their child’s principal. Parents of eligible students at Chalone Peaks and Del Rey will receive additional information about SES, including enrollment information, in December.

The non-PI schools to which you may request transfer are:
